LAKE HEARN PERIMETER SUMMIT
PROJECT LOCATION
Sandy Springs, GA
PROJECT DATE
2012-2015
Perimeter Summit is a prominent office complex, and Lake Hearn is one of the main roads connecting this commercial hub with nearby areas. The improvements aim to enhance mobility, sustainability, and quality of life for workers and visitors in this busy commercial area, promoting both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) contracted with Lowe Engineers to manage the design of improvements along Lake Hearn Drive, Perimeter Summit Parkway, and Parkside Place. The Lowe Engineers team managed this project from its inception through the design phase and into construction. Lowe provided guidance through design decisions, directed coordination with appropriate GDOT Offices as well as the GDOT PM, completed design reviews in addition to the required GDOT milestones, and ushered the project through the proper coordination based on the LCI funding source.
The project scope focused on improving pedestrian and bicycle access as well as improved vehicular safety measures. Lowe provided oversight and management of these improvements which included; the inclusion of 7,300 linear feet of sidewalks, seating benches, landscaping, lighting, and trash receptacles. Furthermore, the project upgraded all intersections to include ADA-compliant ramps, pedestrian signalization, signage, and crosswalks. Two intersections were completed as “raised tables” to implement traffic calming measures along Lake Hearn Drive and roadway lanes were narrowed to reduce driver speeds and allow construction of bike lanes along the shoulder.
