Building Official – Stonecrest, Georgia
Responsibilities:
- Planning, organizing, performing, and managing the operations and activities of the Building Permit and Inspection Division, including, but not limited to, building inspections, permit issuance, and plan review.
- Direct, coordinate, review and participate in the work of professional and technical employees to ensure that building codes are properly enforced with uniformity, equity and safety as well as provide interpretation and decisions on applicable codes, rules, regulations, and technical problems of enforcement.
- Review all site and construction plans submitted to the city to make sure they follow the appropriate laws.
- Enforce all building codes for commercial and residential dwellings.
- Demonstrate the highest quality of customer service to our clients.
- Provide technical information and informed opinions to design professionals, contractors, attorneys, developers, real estate agents, and building owners on building code issues and other related regulatory requirements.
- Worked closely with staff and all departments to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations, statutes, and ordinances relating to the daily operations of the department and the building industry.
- Investigate unsafe building conditions and provide resolutions in accordance with the Municipal client’s Building Code.
- Assist the public at the counter by responding to technical questions, explaining policies and procedures, and interpreting City codes and ordinances.
- Serve as an in-house expert on building code interpretation, regulating the minimum standards of life safety, health, and welfare for the community.
- Perform building and all trade inspections as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five (5) years of experience OR Associate Degree in a related field and ten (10) years of experience in a building department, or in the building construction industry, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official.
- Ability to obtain additional ICC certifications such as a Residential Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector or Combination Inspector certification.
- A valid Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level I B Certification or better or ability obtain it within twelve (12) months of employment.
- Must be eligible to be a sworn city official with ability to issue city citations.
- Extensive knowledge of principles, practices and methods used in various building construction areas, including structural, plumbing, electrical and mechanical; plan review procedures and practices; permit issuance and related record keeping.
- Proficient with all applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including laws, ordinances, and codes related to building construction and zoning.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are a must.
