Job Summary:
Lowe Engineers is seeking a dependable and motivated Instrument Man to support our survey field crews in collecting accurate data for a variety of land development and infrastructure projects. This position works under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief and plays a key role in daily field operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable working outdoors in a team-oriented environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist the Survey Crew Chief with daily field operations and data collection
• Operate and help maintain survey equipment, including total stations, GPS units, and data collectors
• Set up and break down survey instruments and ensure proper calibration
• Collect and record field data accurately and efficiently
• Mark points, stake locations, and assist with construction layout activities
• Maintain clear and organized field notes and documentation
• Transport equipment and materials to and from job sites
• Follow all safety procedures and company standards while in the field
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 0–2 years of experience in surveying or related field preferred (entry-level candidates encouraged to apply)
• Basic understanding of surveying principles is a plus
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
• Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Physical demands:
Work is performed both outdoors and in an office environment. Outdoor work may be conducted at landfills, construction sites, and in traffic. To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as including lifting and carrying instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain. Incumbents may also be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools.
Environmental Factors: Works indoors and out-of-doors year round. Works around traffic and automobile fumes. Incumbents may be subjected to dusts, fumes, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
