In the summer of 2023, Lowe survey crews mobilized from multiple offices to Abu Dhabi, UAE in support of the USACE Transatlantic Middle East District. Crews spent several weeks in preparation of the project. Crews recovered the provided control monuments, then set and statically observed the monoliths that were set as part of the effort. Subsurface utilities were designated/located by radiometric frequency and/or ground penetrating radar and then horizontally located by the field crews by RTK GPS methods. There were over 17,000 observations made over the course of 10 calendar days. The temperature was an extreme that had to be addressed from a safety standpoint as well as an equipment standpoint. Steps were taken to avoid operating temparates exceeding 115+ degrees and survey crews were required to hydrate with regularity and take breaks when necessary. The mission was successful and the project was submitted early to the client.
