Senior/Lead Engineer:

The responsibilities of this position include serving as the Lead and/or Senior Level Engineer for preparation of construction documents for minor and major roadway, sidewalk, shoulder improvements, and drainage design projects.  Duties will include continuous design activities for a variety of projects.  Additionally, other tasks include assisting project managers with plan preparation, cost estimates, report writing, client coordination and permitting.  The position requires strong communication skills due to the amount of collaboration involved with the team as well as outside agencies, client interaction, etc.  This will be a full-time salary position.  Candidates must be willing to work reasonable overtime to meet project demands, when necessary.

Basic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology is required.  Georgia PE registration, or the ability to obtain with Georgia within 6 months, is required.  Experience must include a minimum of 10 years of transportation design related experience.

Construction experience is optional, but considered a plus if achieved in addition to direct design experience.   Software design experience should include working with MicroStation V8i and InRoads.  AutoCAD and other additional CAD platforms will be beneficial, but not required.  Experience with GDOT’s previously adopted platform of MicroStation V7 and CAiCE is accommodating, but not required.  Related experience should consist of working directly with GDOT and the Plan Development Process, GDOT collaborative projects with local counties or municipalities, and other local projects utilizing GDOT standards and specifications.  Experience should consist of working as the Lead or Senior Level Engineer for the projects described.  Past responsibilities should include certain project management functions to assist the Project Manager for larger projects or operating as more of a Deputy Project Manager for smaller projects with local or private clients. Traffic/Transportation Engineer, Brookhaven/Lowe Engineers

The purpose of this position is to provide oversight of the City’s traffic engineering duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Public Works Department that provides a safe, efficient, and properly maintained transportation infrastructure for the citizens and businesses in the City, in accordance with Federal, State and City standards

The following duties are representative of the range of duties performed under this job classification. Individual employees may only perform a subset of the duties listed. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive:

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

•Determine scope and/or reviews traffic studies prepared by outside entities for site development/site impacts.
•Review zoning and variance applications for traffic and transportation impacts as well as right of way impacts.
•Attend Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeal, and/or City Council Meetings as needed; Review Land Disturbance Plans and/or  Building Plans for traffic and transportation impacts as well as right of way impacts.
•Develops & reviews signal timing-timing parameters for new installations; analyzes traffic count data; evaluates existing signal timings.
•Performs traffic calming studies; recommends traffic calming solutions to management; ensures traffic calming devices are in compliance  with applicable traffic control device regulations, standards, and specifications; presents traffic calming presentations as necessary.
•Performs crash data analysis and developed crash diagrams; develops and maintains top accident location list, recommends solutions, and  monitors results.
•Prepares or oversees the preparation of technical drawings, schematics and installation plans for traffic control devices.
•Receives and responds to traffic and transportation concerns and issues and determines and recommends appropriate resolutions to  maintain positive community/customer relations for the Department and City.
•Formulates policies and procedures for the department; reviews, amends, and updates department policies, procedures, rules, regulations,  and standards.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil or traffic engineering or a closely related field with a minimum of 4-years recent experience in traffic or transportation engineering. A minimum of two years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination or education and experience. A valid Certificate of Engineer in Training (EIT), and Georgia Driver’s License.

Other Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in traffic or civil engineering; A valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in Georgia; Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE); Five (5) years experience in traffic and transportation engineering with at least three (3) in a management or a supervisory position; Municipal traffic-related experience.

Pavement Management/Construction Management/Inspection – Atlanta

This position is a management and execution position for pavement management, construction management, inspection and directing the activities of municipal infrastructure maintenance and construction projects in the Atlanta area with a focus on asphalt pavement management.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Supervises, executes and directs assigned public works projects.  Keeps abreast of public works technologies and developments; evaluates existing programs, methods and operations and initiates changes as necessary to accomplish the mission efficiently within available resources; develops and implements operational policies and procedures as necessary. Performs field investigations, land owner coordination, for maintenance and new construction projects. Coordinates operations and activities with other departments and with outside agencies; represents the section and makes presentations at public hearings or before the elected officials, or other individuals or groups; coordinates activities with the elected officials on behalf of the overall project manager. Negotiates and administers contracts with private contractors to provide necessary services to the infrastructure, such as plans review, capital improvement project assistance, and design and inspection assistance. Prepares or supervises the preparation of the annual and special budget requests; administers the approved budget and monitors division revenues and expenditures. Identifies federal, state and private research and construction grants and loans; determines the scope of work for which funds are needed and prepares proposals to obtain them; administers those funds granted to the organization. Performs other related duties as required, such as:

•Providing inspection services for conformance to Plans, Specifications or Contracts for all roadway, structures, and specialty items or in  accordance with client’s adapted procedures and policies.
•Inspecting multiple contractors and locations during a working shift.
•Inspection work may require to work days, nights, and weekends with little advanced notice.
•Inspection work may require some time working in an office or field setting.
•Inspection work may require inspections across multiple projects and/or clients at any given time.
•Inspecting erosion control items as needed for conformance and effectiveness in the field.
•Recording construction quantities for contractor payment using appropriate DOT forms.
•Recording observations and field measurements in project records for review by supervisor, client, or auditors (records will be recorded on a standard form-field book and/or on field inspection forms to be submitted to the client).
•Understanding of asphalt resurfacing package structure
•Ability to research, quantify and assemble asphalt roadway resurfacing packages
•Providing photo documentation to support recorded observations.
•Reviewing traffic control daily, and additionally as required or requested and provide corrections as needed per state or national guidelines.

•Compiling and entering documentation/invoices as needed within required deadline.

•Preparing an accurate daily diary, signed by the inspector, consisting of:

  • Record of contractors on the project
  • Record of contractors or subcontractors active location on the project
  • Record traffic control in place and setup per guidelines
  • Contractors personnel (number and classification) onsite
  • Orders given the contractor or subcontractor
  • Events of note on the project

Civil Engineer with AutoCAD Civil 3D Experience – Atlanta

Lowe Engineers is seeking a Civil Engineer – Civil Site with AutoCAD Civil 3D experience , to join our Atlanta, GA office. The Civil Engineer will work independently using his or her own discretion while working with the Project Manager in the development of concept plans, performing engineering analysis and design, and producing final construction documents and specifications for a variety of public and private sector projects. The qualified candidate will work with a team of engineers, designers and surveyors to ensure client satisfaction and successful project completion.

Duties:
•Perform assignments using prescribed methods requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria
•Perform calculations and analysis using fundamental engineering formulas
•Design and layout of plans and details
•Adjust & correlate data, research code issues, design options and document findings
•Organize and maintain project files
•Prepare plans, special provisions and estimates
•Preparation of letter reports and project correspondence
•Coordinate with other engineering disciplines
•Communicate with (internal & external) others clearly and professionally in both technical and non-technical terms.
•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
•Preparation of proposals, project scope and budgeting
•Prepare Specifications as required to support CD’s

Qualifications: Requires a BSCE degree and PE license or EIT with the ability to obtain licensure.. Requires a minimum of 4 years experience. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience required, Experience with site development work is strongly desired. Excellent communication skills are required.

 

Field Engineer/Surveyor – Atlanta

Key Responsibilities for a Field Engineer:
· Sets up and maintains permanent control throughout the entire line and grade portion of the project.
· Validates accurate dimensions by reviewing the architectural and structural drawings prior to execution.
· Is able to identify any discrepancies in drawings prior to execution.
· Engages the project lead on the line and grade portion of the project to ensure proper scheduling and sequencing.
· Proficient with the use of advanced instruments and total station to perform an accurate layout.
· Is able to complete a layout in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
· Delivers layout information to the project team to ensure proper execution.

Qualifications:
· Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook
· Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
· 5+ years of experience in field engineering, surveying, and layout for a large scale Self-Perform GC or Concrete Contractor.
· Self-perform experience of concrete is required.
· Seeking someone with a variety of project types with emphasis on Commercial/Industrial.
· Knowledge of construction principles/practices required with experience on projects over 1 million dollars.
· Experienced with using advanced instruments and capable of using Total Station to perform layouts.

Instrument Man – Augusta

Immediate position available for an experienced an Instrument Man with Lowe Engineers, LLC. Successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and enjoy being part of a team in a fast paced environment. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who enjoys challenging work working in a Team environment. To be considered, candidates must be able to operate all of the instrumentation required for the collection or distribution of survey data (total station, data collector, level),  and knowledge of field survey engineering methods and techniques.
